Q: How old were you when you wrote your book?
A: I was 18 when I started and 19 when I reached the end.
Q: Describe your book in three words?
A: Growth. Independence. Control.
Q: What inspired you to write your book?
A: I took the leap and started writing this novel during the first year of my undergraduate degree, when I wasn't enjoying university quite how I imagined I would. I decided to make the most of my situation and do something that I had wanted to do ever since I discovered what a book was - write a full-length one myself!
As for this particular novel, this book is for anyone who has ever been made to feel small in a relationship and was inspired by my peers who have struggled with control and their own independence. I wanted to write something that might inspire young adults to realise their own potential, with or without a partner. I'm also fascinated by the relationship between sisters, so I knew I had to include that!
Q: What do you enjoy most about writing?
A: From the moment I discovered books when I was really little, I knew that they were something that would feature heavily throughout my life and became fascinated by the idea of writing stories. The first 21 years of my life have been mapped out according to the series, plots and characters that I have connected with and I consider the chance to write my own a blessing.
The only way to describe what writing means to me is to say that I would be completely lost without it. I love that you can bring characters to life (so much so that my protagonist actually feels like a best friend!) and create a story that has the potential to provide clarity for someone else.
Q: When you're not writing, what do you enjoy doing?
A: If I'm not writing, I'll probably be reading - I love contemporary YA. Outside of the comfort of my bedroom, my happiest places include Disneyland Paris, Taylor Swift concerts, and the beach where I grew up. I'm also very invested in crime dramas on Netflix, and brunch. Brunch is a beautiful thing.
Q: Tell us an interesting fact about you.
A: Ironically, my first word as a baby was 'book'!
